Powerline Networking

AZTECH launched the HomePlug 200Mbps, HL109E, with "Simple Connect," which enables an automated unique password generation feature that allows the secure pairing of two or more HomePlug adaptors.

The HL109E uses Simple Connect, an automated security system that utilises 128-bit AES encryption to ensure that your network connection is secure.

Plug one unit near your modem and another near your PC, and you’ll have a 200Mbps (megabits per second) network connection between them for simultaneously transferring high-definition videos, playing online games, and making VoIP (Voice-over-Internet Protocol) calls.

The HomePlug is a plug-and-play device and it can be used in any part of the house with a wall socket.

The HomePlug HL109E will be available next month for RM209.

Hello Kitty Theme Vehicle

You know there is something wrong when you start getting emails from people wondering when you are going to update Hello Kitty Hell. This wouldn’t be a bad thing if the people wanting the update were those that disliked Hello Kitty, but these are Hello Kitty fans. I will state right now that if you are getting withdrawal symptoms because you aren’t getting enough updates from a blog named Hello Kitty Hell, you’re way too into Hello Kitty. Do a favor to yourself (and your partner) and seek help right away…I suggest a 10 step Hello Kitty anonymous program.

You also know there is something seriously wrong when you have over 50 emails of Hello Kitty photos sitting in your email from people that think you need to see more Hello Kitty items. My email inbox is beginning to resemble my house. This is definitely not a good thing.

Take, for example, this Hello Kitty car:

My only saving grace at this point is that my wife feels that it is “too small” - that’s not to say she doesn’t want a fully decked out Hello Kitty car, she just wants a BIG one (which she is slowly doing to our current car…). The problem, of course, is that at some point I know I’m going to hear that we need a second car and this will certainly be in the running. There really should be some universal law that Hello Kitty and cars are not allowed to mix…

Future laptop design?

The Traveller laptop concept by Nikita Golovlev may just represent a quantum leap of what may be possible in mobile computing thanks to ePaper, the flexible plastic display under development which is downright miserly on power consumption and can provide motion graphics that are as clear as their LCD counterparts. At least in theory.

Golovlev got inspiration for the design from a tourist map which provides where you get a general overview, followed by inserts with more detail. Using software on the built in hard drive (though I think flash drive is more suited to the idea), the Traveller can also be used as in concert with GPS navigation. It can also interface with any photographs stored and synced to a GPS log to show exactly where photos were taken. Then, utilizing built-in WiFi or Bluetooth, information and photographs can be shared with the world.

Now granted, this is only a concept – it hasn’t even made it to the prototype stage. But it does show the potential impact ePaper can have on an industry always looking to shave a few ounces out of it’s weight.

No word on if it will even get to the prototype stage, but one other question begs to be answered … with a design like this and ePaper being perfected, could it also be possible that someday we’ll see a disposable laptop?
